Are you ready for the ban on plastic bags in the supermarkets? Beginning March 1, New York State will ban plastic bags at the checkouts in our supermarkets. This will be a big change for New Yorkers. It will mean bringing your own reusable bags when you shop for groceries. This is a very good thing for the environment. Plastic bags show up everywhere after the snow melts; they are found in our lakes and oceans. While I don't agree with many of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's positions, I think this is a very positive move for the environment. Some day, every state will ban these plastic bags; right now, New York is at the forefront of this environmental movement.
Next weekend, Fr. John Rose will be with us for our liturgies. I am sure you will give him a very warm welcome.
Also, Fr. Rose will be with us at our next men's spirituality meeting on Feb. 22. Fr. Rose has been a spiritual director in our diocese for many years. He was the director of Christ the King retreat center before his retirement two years ago. Any men from the parish are welcome to attend. Our group meets from 10 am until 11:30 am. Please spread the word!
