This Sunday and next Sunday we celebrate two "doctrinal" feasts. The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity and the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus.
God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At the end of St. Matthew's gospel, Jesus tells us to "Go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." This doctrine of the Trinity was believed by the Christians of the early Church. St. Paul refers to the Trinity in his writings. The Council of Nicea (325AD) formalized the Christian doctrine of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-one God, three "persons."
The Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus reminds us of the "real" presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Jesus is present in his Holy Word, He is present in our lives but in a unique and special way, and Jesus is present in the Eucharist. Jesus said "Take and eat...take and drink." We refer to the Eucharist as "The Body of Christ," but St. Paul called the Church the Body of Christ. We make the love of Jesus, the presence of Jesus real and visible in the lives that we lead.
