Summer officially began last Thursday. These days are going by so quickly! I hope you will be able to take time to relax and enjoy good weather during the next few months. One of our great summer events here at St. Margaret's is the Mass On The Grass and parish picnic. This year our outdoor Mass and picnic will be Sunday, August 12 at 10:30 a.m.
Also, I want to thank all of our committees, councils, our choir and musicians, and parish organizations for all your great ministry during the past year.
Summertime is rather quiet at church in terms of meetings, however, we will gear-up full speed in September! Your parish staff spent a day last week planning the church calendar of events and meetings for the coming year.
We look forward to welcoming parishioners from St. Patrick's in Truxton and hope that they will become active members of our parish community.
Next weekend, Deacon Dan Caughey will be giving the homily at our Masses. Dan grew up in Cortland and went to Oswego State where he met his wife Mary. Dan was ordained a permanent deacon for our diocese in 2013. He was a science teacher until he retired in 2017. Sadly, Dan's wife passed away in 2013. A couple of years after that, Dan started to consider the priesthood as the Lord's new call in his life. After a lot of prayer and consultation, Dan entered St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore to begin studies for the priesthood. He has completed one year of theology and is now at his summer assignment at Holy Cross church in Dewitt. Dan's family is well-known in our area. His mother, Audrey, often comes here for daily Mass. She is a parishioner of St. Mary's. I know you will give Deacon Dan a warm welcome and encourage him in his progress toward diocesan priesthood. We need him !!
